/ teecs:comp.sys.hp / tobbe@isy.liu.se (Torbjorn Kronander): >There is a rumour that hpux 8.0 supports decnet. Is that true, and if >it is what functiosn in decnet are supported ? I can't comment on HP-UX 8.0, but I somehow doubt it! However, I am running a couple of products from a division of CDC called ASCENT*DNI and ASCENT*LINK which provides full DECnet and LAT support! Both products are supported (by CDC) on the HP800-series (and probably on the 300/700 machines as well). The *LINK product is very new (we were an unwitting beta-test site!), but it seems to work very nicely. Basically, the ASCENT*DNI provides DECnet compatibility -- our 825 now exists on a large DECnet and seems to have all the capabilities of the VAXen on the net. It works with the HP lan card, and does not interfere with the use of TCP/IP services (which we also use over the same network). It is relatively inexpensive (I don't have the info with me now, but I don't think it was more than about $2000.) The ASCENT*LINK package provides LAT protocol support...we use LAT terminal servers to connect to the HP9000/825 now! Performance seems very good (we're all running at 19.2KBaud). It also allows us to configure LAT-based network printers into the spooling system -- we haven't done this yet, but will be configuring at least 20-30 soon). If you (or anyone) would like more info, just let me know and I'll dig up the address, etc. (I'm not in my office now). I'm very happy with the product! (The only thing that would make me _much_ happier would be (A) for DEC to go TCP/IP, or (B) if all the VAXen were traded-up to HP unix boxes!! :-) +-----------------------------------------------+-------------------------+ | Hershel Belkin hp9000/825(HP-UX)| UUCP: teecs!belkin | | Test Equipment Engineering Computing Services |Phone: 416 249-1231 x2647| | Litton Systems Canada Limited (Toronto) | FAX: 416 246-2016 | +-----------------------------------------------+-------------------------+

No HPUX 8.0 does not support Decnet. I know of no plans to add support to HPUX.

Decnet is not supported by HP however you can purchase it from a third party. Contol Data Corporation has a solution available called ASCENT*DNI that runs on the HP9000 series 300/400/600/800. The series 700 version will be available July 1st. The series 800/300/400/600 versions are runing now on both HP-UX 7.x and HP-UX 8.x You can contact Randall Barker at CDC at 513-427-6379
