Hi,
We are looking for a compute-server for our design lab here. Two of the machines we
are looking at is the HP 720/730 machines . The main problem is that even all we have
to go on are the stats for these machines in terms of MIPS, MFLOPS and so on . But what
we have not really been able to find out is how well these machines perform on real world
problems, and whether they are capable of handling several users without showing
considerable deterioration in performance. Does anyone have any idea or experience
regarding these two machines (both in the workstation and/or the server configurations ?)
Also, how well do these machines perform as compared to the IBM RS/6000, the Sparcs
or some of the SGI machines ? It would also be good to know something about how
(in)compatible the OS is with respect to other flavours of UN*X , especially since we
will be looking to interact with other systems like MIPS/SUNs quite a lot.
Thanks in advance for any information for these machines.
