Greetings. I've installed HP's ppl/SLIP package on our local cluster server: HP-UX quonset 7.05 B 9000/375 quonset A `what` of the SLIP package yields: /tmp/ni/bin/liblan.a: $Header: PATCH_70: ip_input.c,v 1.45.15.3 90/08/05 18:02:19 with pcnfs & splnet fixes$ $Header: PATCH_70 tcp_usrreq.c,v 1.50.15.6 89/09/29 17:39:49 with zero-pcb test patch$ PATCH_7.0 : so_syscall.o directory sys 90/05/11 LAN.89/09/14 (7.0) /tmp/ni/bin/ppl: NETINET: Revision: A.07.00 $Date: 90/04/23 02:00:29 $ NETINET: Revision: A.07.00 $Date: 90/04/23 02:00:29 $ Basically, I've followed the README instructions included, as well as reading the ppldoc, ppl(1) and pplstat(1) documentation. Everything went (semi-) smoothly up throught building the new /hp-ux, and it even booted, but shortly after the YP startup messages appear, ypbind goes into a massive fit of dying, at the rate of 1-2/second. No logins work, except at the console (with a few ^C's to get a login prompt). The machine was somewhat alive, since other machines that had it NFS mounted could still access it's discs. I couldn't find any log file messages to help explain what was happening, and moving the old /hp-ux back in and rebooting worked fine. I should add that I have done none of the rest of the ppl setup (mknods, UUCP baggage, ppl setup files, &c), and only gave it a quick try before backpedaling. I was wondering if any SLIPsters have run across this problem, or can notify me that I am using an inappropriate combination of software, or some such. thanks, sss -- Steven S.
