It is *NOT* a smartmodem like the Commodore 1670. You control the modem chip directly from the user port, including bit banging touch tones and the switch hook. No extra cables are needed. I suggest you get a Hayes Compatible Commodore 1670 for slightly more money. That modem will work with nearly all terminal programs (that support 1200 baud, that is). It also comes with software (vt100 and vt52 packages) and a trial offer from Q-Link. (biting my tongue) Jeff Porter Commodore Engineering PS: my opinions might be biased, but then I told you so.
