[comp.sys.cbm] BROKEN C64C

judah@bentley.UUCP (03/15/87)

The cursor keeps moving across the screen.
The problem began today after my son received a shock while sitting on
the carpet and playing a game with one of the joysticks.
Several keys stop the cursor movement temporarily while the key is
held down - control, Commodore Key, F1 & F8 simultaneously, pressing
down on a joystick. One brings up a message "PRESS PLAY ON TAPE".

Any advice will be appreciated.

The machine was purchased on 12/29/86 at Crazy Eddie and is just within the 90
day warranty. Where can I take it for warranty service in Monmouth County, N.J.?

Plugging a cartridge in - the game works. Unplug it - same problem.

Sound like a short?

Thanks,

I had this same problem once, after a friend had "shocked" my 64. I
think your problem is one of the 1526 chips. You might want to open
your 64 and switch the chips around. Of course, you could get it
repaired - the place out here will fix it for some enormous fee, though.

Also, if you left a joystick in one of the ports, it could also cause
this problem.

Actually, this should be 6526 (the CIA chip). I was half-asleep when I
posted the above, so forgive me.
