So, you ask, what about the 1571 update ROM? Well, they are in the same position as the C128 update set- I got my samples a week ago, but the service guys didn't- yet. Actually, it has been a real thrill driving around with a box of 'em on the seat beside me, wondering just what they are good for, yunno? I gotta get my thrills somehow... Anyhow, my tush has recovered from the grand announcement of the C128 update enough that I suppose I can tell you how to *prepare* to get your very own 1571 update. Dealers and service centers can perform the simple update for you, or you can order parts directly from Commodore and Do It Yourself (and kiss your warranty farewell). For the DIYers, the ROMs are socketed; I suspect the most trouble you will have is assulting the RF shield. Good luck. (If this all sounds familiar, it is, and I consider it efficiency, not laziness). The customer price is $6.65 (plus $3.00 shipping) for the ROM. Send a check made out to Commodore Business Machines to: Service Department CBM 1200 Wilson Drive West Chester, PA 19380 Ask for the "1571 update ROM #310654-05" and include your name and address. Please, no credit cards, COD's, etc. and allow many moons for service to get the parts, find your order, and mail them to you. I will let you know when everything is in stock.
