[comp.sys.cbm] re VT52 emulator downloader

That downloader was written *way* before the advent of Kermit and Xmobuf
programs for the C64. These packetized protocol downloaders have pretty
much replaced the old "capture" or "stream" downloading protocols, since
the former detect and correct errors due to line noise etc. during the
transfer. Consequently, I don't see much need these days for TERM.PLUS's
"stream" download protocol; it was just a convenience used during the
development of TERM.PLUS (the VT52 emulator) itself. C64 Kermit encompases
the *same* VT-52 terminal emulator (with a somewhat inferior 80 column font,
I fear).

Yes, I didn't intend the package to be a serious downloader. But it is
very handy when using TERM.PLUS -- which I still do -- for the 80-col font
(about the only usable one I've seen on a composite monitor) and the
convenience. Also, I have no problem with line noise and much of my work
is on Apollo DOMAIN/IX machines where a stable Kermit has only been a dream
around here.
Thanks, Steve
