[comp.sys.cbm] 1351 mouse instead of Koalapad?

No, you can't replace an aging Koalapad with a 1351 mouse. They both generate
the same *type* of signal (analog time-constant), but not over the same range
nor in the proper directions. That is, if you hook up a 1351 mouse to Koala
applications software, the pointer will move, but not over the whole screen and
not in the same direction as you push the mouse. Also, the algorithms used
by Koala software to position and filter the pointer motion rely on absolute
values of pad input (i.e. so you can pick up the pen and put it down somewhere
else without sliding it all the way), while the recommended method for use with
the mouse is to maintain absolute position within the software based on deltas
generated by the mouse (where deltas of 1 are to be ingored); for this reason,
the pointer on Koala software is generally jittery when you try to use the
mouse with it.

The 1350 mouse is just a trackball flipped on it's back and would also be
useless to replace a Koala Pad.

Sincerely,
Frank Prindle
