[comp.sys.cbm] Help!! My Commodore 64 needs a chip!

OP4@PSUVM.BITNET (Bill Myers) (10/01/87)

My C-64 needs a video chip... I have two problems:
1.) I don't know which chip (or chips) is/are the video chips.
2.) Commodore, Inc. isn't cooperating at all.

If you can tell me what chip is the video chip (in relation to the
other chips on the board, let me know by E-Mail, or post a followup
on the net

Thanx in advance,
Bill

The video chips in the c64 are hidden under a silver box on the
front of the commodore board. The are relitively(sp??) easy to get
so there should not be a problem in finding them. If you have any
trouble let me know and I will get the chip number from my manuals.

Try Jameco, 1355 Shoreway Rd., Belmont CA 94002.
Phone them at (415) 592-8121 and ask for their catalog.
I don't have my Commodore hardware info at hand, but I think that the
chip you want is the 6522 VIA; Jameco lists them for $2.95.
Hope this helps.

Actually, I lied. According to the C-64 schematic in back of the
programmer's manual, you want a 6567 VIC-II. The Jameco 1988 catalog,
which just came, lists them for $14.95 on page 11. Strangely, the same
catalog lists complete C-64 motherboards on page 46, also for $14.95.
You may want to go that route instead.
