Well first off to fix the problems with the 1571's you need to get the new version of the ROMS. I have them and they work beautifully. They also read 1541 formatted disk and recognize them as such just as quick as they do with a 1571 formatted double sided disk. They also correct some of the other odd bugs that were found in the original 1571 roms. I bought mine for $30 from a computer show and have been happy with them. In regards to Bob's Term Pro for the Commodore 128, I called the company and spook to a customer service rep. They said that "because of insufficient memory in the 128, it can not handle full screen editing". That is pure bull. We have a Radio Shack model II in work that does all of the screen editing, etc. with no problems whatsoever. I have found one that does seem to work properly and it comes with the quantum link disk. It is called VT100 and works ok. I have also got replies for other VT100 emulators and when I get them, I will post it on the net and then if you want them you can let me know via mail. First, it is a single 32k x 8 ROM (27256 EPROM, in the early 1571s like mine), it is NOT ROMs (plural). Second, the list price on those things is $10. Or, at least that's what my dealer sold me MINE for. It said so right on the Commodore price-list that he consulted (or was that wholesale price? I wonder... but even so, it shouldn't be over $20). > In regards to Bob's Term Pro for the Commodore 128, I called the company and > spook to a customer service rep. They said that "because of insufficient memory > in the 128, it can not handle full screen editing". That is pure bull. That customer service rep thought that you meant full-screen editing of the memory buffer, obviously. That's a very big problem, dealing with poorly trained reps who haven't the foggiest notion what they're saying. You need a built-in BS-dectector, and you need the chutzpa to say "Since you obviously don't know what you're talking about, put me on to someone who does". The problem with Bobsterm Pro, as someone else mentioned, is that it is not brain-dead like a real VT100 -- so some software has trouble dealing with it. Using some other emulation & the wonders of termcap can solve that. - Eric Lee Green elg@usl.CSNET Asimov Cocktail,n., A verbal bomb {cbosgd,ihnp4}!killer!elg detonated by the mention of any Snail Mail P.O.
