Has anyone successfully used the 1581 disk drive with CPM???

Jon: I take it from the phrasing of your comment that you have tried and failed.
The only reason I can think of for this is the fact that CP/M uses a special
format, available on the 1571 automatically and fakable for the 1541, but
both of those are still 5.25 drives. CP/M simply isn't set up, to my knowledge,
to handle a 1581 with its 3.5 disks.

Uncle Mikey, it most definitely is! You can use the existing CP/M sys, and
format a 3.5" disk to hold 360k of stuff, or you can do a brief modification
to
the sys, and the 3.5" disk will hold 800k of stuff, or you can send $20 to CBM

for their (or DRI's) new CP/M sys, and have 800k on the 3.5" disk, and boot
the
sys from the #1581, as well!

I am using two #1581's as drives A and B, each with 800k capacity. They are
fast, and quiet [the sys boots from a #1581 in 12 seconds]......but alas not
as
fast and quiet as the #1750 RAM.

This latest sys is dated May 28, 1987. I have uncovered two bugs, and am
waiting for CBM's fixes. One is the "NO SCROLL" key which stops the scroll,
but doesn't act as an on/off toggle. Pressing RETURN will begin the scroll
again, until a fix comes out. The other is minor and relates to use of SUBMIT

files when SETDEF [temporary=m:].
