[comp.sys.cbm] Closest thing to Rogue Advanced Version 5.8 on Commodore 64/128?

lae@mhuxu.UUCP (Laura Eppright) (02/25/88)

I really enjoy Rogue on the Unix computer, and I was wondering what the
best Rogue imitation would be for the Commodore 64/128.

Some of the things I would want in this game are:

1) To have one computer screen be one floor (instead of one room)
2) To be reasonably (for the C64) fast
3) To have graphics. I have Zork, but I get frustrated playing it, esp.
those twisty passages all alike. The game does NOT have to have great
graphics (the version I have here only has keyboard graphics, no sprites
or anything, but I enjoy it)
4) Price is no object, but of course, the cheaper, the better!
5) More than one character moves at a time.

I had bought "Age of Adventure" (a role-playing adventure for mythology and
Ali Baba), but it does not have 1),5), or much of 2). What do you expect
for 2 games for 13 dollars, anyway?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! All of these role playing games out
on the market totally confuse me as a consumer. Please send me e-mail,
as I haven't been reading USENET lately. Thank you.

Laura

I have PC Nethack on my PC, but has anyone tried porting this to the
	128? I have a 128 w/640k, 1571 floppy, and 80 col mono monitor. Seems
to be theoretically possible, anyone tried this and got it working?

The problem lies in the fact that all of the "neat" games are written to
use curses/terminfo. As far as I know, there is no terminfo "driver"
for C-Power/Power-C.

Writing a terminfo package for the 128 wouldn't be TOO dificult, since the
128 supports most of the necessary terminal escape sequences. You wouldn't
need to do the database stuff, since the package would support only 1
terminal (The 80 or 40 column screen).

I'll put this project on my 10 mile long list of things to do. :-)
