Does anybody out there have a way to determine the age of an old CBM PET? I recently came accross one in near-perfect condition and would like more details. The unit is the type with the "calculator-style" keyboard in QWERTY layout. It has 8Kb memory and a cassette deck built in. The label on the back states: Commodore 2001-8 C SN# 0630733 The front label is black and silver and states: Commodore 2001 series Personal Electronic Transactor. I have some old books and articles from '79 and they all show a colored label on the front bearing the incscription Commodore 2001 Personal Computer. Based on that I think it may be a pre-'79 model, but I'm not too sure. If so, this is one of the first Personal- Computers I can recall ever seeing! (Well, like the first anyhow !-) Thanks for any info! Bob P.S. - I ran the "print peek(50003)" test and got a 0. This means it has the "old" ROMs. Any idea *how* old? PS - I'd be interested in a source for reprints of old articles on this machine! PPS - Easy on any direct mail please! We have to pay per KB here, and PLENTY for each! -- UUCP: cpt.k9@netmbx ---------Bob-George-------- ----Unter-den-Eichen-97---- -----1000-Berlin-45-------- ------W.-Germany----------- Tel : (049-030) 832-8319

The pet you found is one of the original models IF it doesn't have IEEE port on it. That model was first made around 1976 thru about 1978, when CBM released the versions that had the IEEE port on it. Now, can anybody else tell me where I can find a CHEAP drive for the 4040 model disk drive? It uses the EXACT same drives as the Apple ][ did years ago; in fact, I've seen direct swaps for the drives. The model type is Shugart SA-400, and all I need is the chassis, no electronics.. Also, some asked about the 9090/9060 IEEE hard drive, and creating subdirectorys on it. Not a chance. The only drive CBM makes that supports sub-directorys on it is the 1581.
