To correctly use Vidtex (Compuserve's terminal program) at 1200 baud, the proper setup command is META Q-2-0, not META Q-2-8 (for those of you who have no idea what META Q means, it means holding down the "Commodore" key and pressing the Q key at the same time). The reason that "0" is required and not "8" is that the standard baud rate timing parameters in the C64 are incorrerct for >300 baud. The "0" selects an optional baud rate byte pair which is preset in Vidtex to 1200 baud. Vidtex works perfectly at 1200 baud once you understand this little quirk.
