[comp.sys.cbm] terminal emmulation

mullins@pitt.UUCP (Paul M. Mullins) (07/26/88)

I have a C64, 1541 drive and Zenith monitor. I would like to use
this as a terminal (connecting to a Unix system). Recent discussion
indicates that Kermit is probably the software I want.

Here's the question:

Do I need a hardware/software upgrade of some sort, and what modems
do you suggest?

Getting hold of Kermit is not a problem, but is there a better terminal
emmulation package available. What baud rate does it support?

e-mail responses unless you get lots of these dumb requests and want
to forestall future questions.

Thanks for the help.

 It most certainly is.

You should not need any sort of additional hardware, except of course, your
modem choice. I believe a wise choice would be a hayes compatible modem
with maybe 2400 baud. (I prefer MultiTech Modems myself).

I believe Kermit only supports up to 2400 baud because that is all the
Commodore 8 Bit machines are "supposed" to be able to handle correctly.

I had tried mailing you but one of my mail feeds bounced it, so I decided
 to post it.
