[comp.sys.cbm] Strange Disk Drive Behavior

logden@tc.fluke.COM (Leonard Ogden) (09/27/88)

OK you techie types, I have a strnge one on my hands :-)

Seems that my disk drive motor, (the one that turns the disk around), gets
jammed from time to time. I think it happens most often when a program
'bangs the head' due to copy protection.

To correct the failure I open the drive, grab the motor pulley with needle nose
pliers and give it a twist. The pulley turns slowly, and then seems to
'release' and turn freely.

What gives?

I've checked all the clearances inside (the metal shield is close
to the pulley at this point), and do not seem to see a problem.

It is MOST annoying to have to stop in the middle of a program, open the
drive, give it a twist or two, close it up, and then soon do it again.

Thanks for your help :-)
