[comp.sys.cbm] 1660 problems

bowen@cs.Buffalo.EDU (Devon E Bowen) (10/14/88)

One of our students asked me to give him a hand with a 1660 modem he's got.
He says he can't get it to work with anything other than the software he
got with it. He'd really rather use kermit. After trying it myself I realized
that the reason it won't work is there's no switch or anything to force the
modem off-hook. You can manually dial to the line you want, but the modem
will refuse to listen. Does anyone have a work around? Either a patch to
kermit that would force the modem off-hook or maybe even a hardware mod for
adding a switch or something? I really felt bad for this kid since he really
doesn't have the money to buy another modem... any help is appreciated.
