[comp.sys.cbm] voice digitization & hard drives

bowen@cs.Buffalo.EDU (Devon E Bowen) (10/22/88)

I think this was recently discussed in this group, but at the time I really
wasn't interested. So I'd appreciate a recap...

I'm looking for some kind of 64 interface that will allow me to digitize sound
so that it could be stored and played back later. I'm looking for pretty good
reproduction. Along the lines of a simple tape recording (or better) would be
good. My guess is the sound would have to be digitized through some external
hardware in order to be good enough. Then the sound could either be played back
with more external hardware or through the SID chip.

I'm also looking for info on hard drives available for the 64. I'd imagine
I'll need a good 20 Meg at least. It doesn't need to interface well with the
kernel software since I'll probably be rewriting that anyway, but I'll need
something that's pretty fast. Any suggestions are appreciated.

To give you a better idea of what I need... I'm looking into building a system
that can store voice messages on disk to be played back later. Sort of like a
multiuser answering machine that would be touch-tone activated. Any help is
always appreciated. Thanks...
