Probably a suggestion that skews off in a direction you don't want to take,
but all reports of the GeoProgrammer package indicate you can do good
non-Geos assembly work with that system (including macros and good debugging
tools) - perhaps other users can give first-hand comments? Yes, you would
need Geos to use it.
