[comp.sys.cbm] 1571 drive

tse@pbhyd.PacBell.COM (Tom Edwards) (12/17/88)

I know I've seen this situation before but it has been months. I have a 1571
disk drive that doesn't seem to be able to do disk copying without me having
to have to push in on the disk. The disk is in all the way with the lever
down. But for some reason it cannot see the proper tracks to do its read/writes
so I end up pushing the disk in the last 1/4 inch (and holding it there).
85% of the time it reads disks without any problem, but every once in a while
a disk needs to be pushed (and held) in. But 100% of the time I have to do it
while copying, and even then it's not assured that the copy went right.
So, is it alignment or speed that needs to be adjusted (or something else)?
I don't have any programs for checking the alignment, but will get one if that's
what's needed. (The 1571 is attached to a C128)

Thanks to all that respond - I appreciate it.

Tom
