Subject: final review of my game library

Well folks, it's been fun. But I've got a new job waiting for me in
Wilmington, North Carolina, so I'm leaving the net. By the time you
read this, I'll be net.history.

So here's a final look at my game library. You'll notice that these are
almost all simulations.
   ---
Best overall game:
    Pirates!, from MicroProse

Other outstanding simulations:
    Gunship, from MicroProse
    Strike Fleet, from Electronic Arts

Best simulation not based on reality:
Elite, from Firebird (outer space trading & battle)

Best virtually unknown simulation:
Revs+, from Firebird (Formula 3 auto racing simulation)

Less-than perfect simulations that still can be interesting:
Red Storm Rising, from MicroProse -- little action, graphics
require more detail than a '64 can produce, but the
one I play whenever I'm too tired to deal with fast-paced
        action.
Up Periscope, from Actionsoft -- slow action, poor graphics,
        but a fairly comprehensive simulation.
Chuck Yeager's Advanced Flight Trainer, from Electronic Arts --
ugly graphics and some programming bugs, but it responds
realistically and is just a pure joy to fly.
Flight Simulator II, from SubLogic -- slow graphics and such
excruciating detail as to be nearly impossible to fly,
but extremely accurate and thus appropriate for
        practicing or demonstrating instrument flight.

The "Why isn't this great game sold any longer?" award:
Murder on the Zinderneuf, from Electronic Arts

Electronic Arts' $10 oldies that are still worth more:
    M.U.L.E.
    Pinball Construction Set
    Adventure Construction Set

"I've been ripped off!" category -- games I wish I could get a refund on:
    Temple of Aphshai, from Epyx
Star Trek (the arcade game), from Sega
    Super Huey, from Cosmi
    Defcon 5, from Cosmi
    Apollo 18, from Accolade

Most outrageous bald-faced lie on the box:
Star Empire, from First Row -- claiming to be "From the people who
brought you Elite" even though Elite's authors, publishers, and
distributors had nothing to do with Star Empire.
