There IS a C64 fortran compiler. I don't have it, but I've seen it.
It's called 64TRAN, and it's written by Trident software. from the little
time I played with it, I can say that it generates pretty compact code,
if you don't try using libraries. (If I remember corectly , a null program
was about 200 bytes, and generally, programs were quite slow. But, a demo
program that used a string library went up to 70 blocks ).
Code is quite was too.

Don't expect the compiler to support complex numbers or other advanced
feature
