I spoke to Richard Evers (publisher of the T.) at the World of Commodore show a couple of weeks ago. Commodore Computing International has bought out at least the 8-bit edition of the T. and publication will resume ASAP. To the best of my knowledge, editorial policy will not change suddenly, nor will management. > Waiting for my article to be published, That should only be a matter of time but, if you've ever seen their office, you'll understand that things might get misplaced once in a while. It never hurts to re-send the article with a letter explaining that you wanted to make sure they had it. But please do wait a reasonable amount of time (i.e. several months) before re-submitting... editorial lead time and mail result in many delays from their inclusion of your article to the time you get a copy of the mag with the article in it. -- Geoffrey Welsh - via FidoNet node 1:221/162 UUCP: ...!watmath!isishq!Geoffrey.Welsh Internet: Geoffrey.Welsh@isishq.FIDONET.ORG

My subscription somehow evaporated from their files. I wonder if they are really still in business. They tell me they are but I really have to wonder, since the Nov/Dec issue still is not out yet. I just picked up the December issue of the Transactor on the stands. The editorial explains that the printing and distribution part will be taken over by Croftward Publishing Inc. Maybe it will come out more or less on time now? There is a trade-off on this, it seems. There are more adverts. Well, who are we to stand in the way of progress? at my local Waldenbooks.

Netter A: In Hell they run VMS.
Netter B: No. In Hell, they run MS-DOS. And you only get 256k.

What issue (month, etc)? Will SOMEONE please clarify what in the world is happening with The T? I haven't gotten ANYTHING from them, including a renewal card, and I'm getting a little worried. The T is the best magazine around for Commodore 8 bits, and I'm getting antsy at having to live without! :-) -- jgreco@csd4.milw.wisc.edu Joe Greco at FidoNet 1:154/200 USnail: 9905 W Montana Ave PunterNet Node 30 or 31 West Allis, WI 53227-3329 "No bombs, please" Voice: 414/321-6184 Data: 414/321-9287

They're there. It was the January issue that I bought at Waldenbooks. They have put out at least two issues of the Amiga Transactor since the magazine came back from the grave -- one with a 68020 board for the Amiga 1000, and the current one (v1.4?). I don't know what's going on with the 8-bit version, I bought it for my brother who's still deep into the 8-bit stuff (wellll... I must admit that I enjoy hacking straight at the hardware now and then, especially now that I have a cross-assembler and don't have to edit on that #$@%#$% 40 column screen). If you haven't gotten your subscription yet, give'em a call. It's quite possible that they lost it in all the hassle over going bankrupt etc. A reciept, cancelled check, charge card record, etc. may be necessary, but I doubt they'll be that picky. -- Eric Lee Green ..!{ames,decwrl,mit-eddie,osu-cis}!killer!elg Snail Mail P.O. Dalton Bookstore: ... First of all, 'Transactor''s "dark night of the soul" has ended. Our forte has always been creating magazines of unsurpassed technical information for users of Commodore computers. We intend to continue in that tradition. Now, however, the matters of printing, distribution and advertising are being carried out by Croftward Publishing Inc., which is owned by a large U.K. based publishing company with resources in excess of those that 'Transactor' could produce. (Croftward publishes 'Commodore Computing International' and 'Amiga User International' magazines in the U.K., among others.) This happy arrangement means that we need only concern ourselves with editorial content on our side of things and Croftward will ensure that those materials are printed and distributed to reach you on a timely basis. ... The no-adverts policy dated back to when the T. was owned by BMB CompuScience, who didn't want to publish competitors' ads. Frankly, I think ads in the T. would be about the one place to get info on niche products for the technically-minded Commodore owner. CCI (Commodore Computing International) has bought controlling interest in The Transactor. Business continues as usual. By the way, Joe, if Marv Shelton hasn't already made this announcement in the FidoNet "CBM" conference, please let the world know that: (1) I am not currently connected to the conference as a result of my resignation as district echomail co-ordinator and the resignation two weeks later of the regional co-ordinator. Although a new REC has been selected, no one in this town (aside of myself) has an HST to pick the conference up within the region, so we don't have much echomail in the Kitchener-Waterloo area. (2) The QuickC source code to the C1 protocol can be Fido-requested from 1:221/171 under the names PC-C1.SRC (the code, 23K) and PC-C1.DOC (how to use it, 2K). 221/171 is operating 24h 7d @ 2400 bps (the HST is on vacation).
