Howdy - question: My 64 keyboard has a shift key missing/broken off, and while attempting to glue it back o, I inadvertently get it to stay stuck (fortunately in the off position - obviously no real hardware hacker, me). I have since purchased a C16 keyboard from radio shack, and wish to connect it to my 64 as a replacement. It appeared that there were only cosmetic differences between the two (ie help insead of f7) but when I unhooked the 64 original kbrd and plugged on/in the C16 one it (can you guess?!) didn't work. The maps are different, somehow, presumably. ANYWAY - any ideas on how to get it all to work? Please? Thanks in advance! Sincerely, Jon Slenk / js9b CMU.

Might want to take a little soap & water to the contacts on the 64 board. This gives you an entirely new keyboard assembly / springs / key shafts + contacts / keycaps. Usually you will want to take the keycaps that are different off the c64 keyboard and put them on the C16 keyboard (sorry, moving the C16 ones around doesn't work so swell). I am familiar enough with the normal layout that I don't even bother with that anymore.... it doesn't bother me that +-\ are actually arrows on the keyboard, etc. Let me know if it works. I've done many keyboards this way. -- jgreco@csd4.milw.wisc.edu Joe Greco at FidoNet 1:154/200 USnail: 9905 W Montana Ave PunterNet Node 30 or 31 West Allis, WI 53227-3329 "These aren't anybody's opinions."
