[comp.sys.cbm] C-128 and GEOS questios

jph@cbnewsl.ATT.COM (joseph.p.haggerty) (03/22/89)

1. What's the difference between a Commodore 2002 and a Commodore 1084
    monitor? Can a 2002 be used on a C-128?

2. Is there a known problem with the 1581 disk drive and GEOS-128 v. 1.4?
After I write to a disk for a while, GEOS starts getting disk errors
("Missing or unformatted disk," I think), and GEOS can not write to that
disk any longer, although it can still read it.

3. Is there any printer driver in GEOS-128 v. 1.4 that emits the proper
escape sequences for a Star Gemini II printer? I can't get GEOWrite
to switch automatically to NLQ mode or to underline properly.

4. Is there a vi-like editor for the C-128?

5. What choice of modem on the GEOS Quantum Link disk will work with a
    Volksmodem 6480 (1200 baud)?

You've just hit upon one of the (many) projects that I've been considering..
a 128 vi-like editor..what I'd thought about was a form of terminal
program that would be like an auto-poster...something that would let you
compose news articles offline then log on and (using rn) automatically
post them to the net to the proper newsgroups..this could also go with
a possibility of writing mail too (and a choice of using mailx, mail, elm,
smail, mush, and the zillions of others)..how feasable do you guys think such
a thing would be?

Oh, this sounds like a truly spendid idea. Maybe we can find some source code
and port it using Power C?

But for feasability... If Power C will compile a mailer or editor like those
mentioned, it shouldn't be too hard. But I can't seem to find any access to
the "RS-232" port in the manual. Hmm...

There is an EXCELLENT article on serial I/O in Power C in the last 8-bit
Transactor. Actually, the article is pretty cheesy, but the code works.
Email me if you'd like the source code....
