Hi, I have recently bought a pair of 1581 drives for use with my C128. The serial numbers start in JE1 and JE2 and the manufacture date is March 1988. The drives have a 312558-02 and 318045-01 set of chips for the controller and ROM. Your test program I got from QLink tells me I have a 1772 controller, but I do not know if I have the most recent ROM version. Could you tell me what is the most recent part numbers. One of my friends who runs a BBS on a C128 tells me he has chips 312558-02 and 310651-02. Is this set more recent? The same person is telling me and I quote "the U10 chip solder causes a 'DRIVE NOT READY' error". It seems the 1581 are prone to this condition. Is there a preventive measure or a cure for this error. Thank you for your assistance.
