I have a c64 and a Hayes compatible 2400 baud. I am in the process of getting a modem interface (RS-232 interface). In the magazine COMPUTE'S GAZETTE (old issue) I found that a company called APROTEK sells a universal rs-232 interface for commodore ($39.95) AND a "COM-MODEM" adaptor ($19.95) for interfacing the commodore with "....any Hayes compatible modem...". Since I would not be using other rs-232 peripherals, I am considering the cheap option : the "COM-MODEM" adaptor. In the photo, this adaptor has a DB-25 connector mounted on one end of a 3"x3" circuit board, a connector that can be plugged into the commodore user port in the other end, and a chip between them. The ad says that it can emulate a 1670 or you can turn off entirely. I called the tech support of that company and the person couldn'T Help me at all. Basically, my question is whether this kind of so-called ADAPTOR (as opposed to an INTERFACE) will link my Hayes compatible modem nicely with the c64. By the way, I am using the software KERMIT to emulate a VT100 terminal and connect with the school's mainframe. KERMIT allows me to set the speed to whatever I like. So far I am using the commodore AUTOMODEM (300 baud) because I don't have the interface yet for my other modem. Now the question is : can c64 be able to deal with a 2400 baud speed ? Please reply by e-mail to pcw@squid.tn.cornell.edu Thanx in advance ! Patrick WonG
