I've looked into Fido<->PNet links (which would, in effect, allow PunterNet
to be addressed via Fido-UUCP gates. There are different ways to achieve
this:

-Write a FidoNet "link" for either BBS64 or PC-PunterNet; BBS64 systems as a
rule won't have the memory to spare and modifications to PC-PunterNet require
that you have MASM, QuickC and QuickBASIC compilers - quite expensive.

-Put a FidoNet "front end" on a PC-PunterNet system; but Steve's software
INSISTS on answering the phone (it will not accept being passed a connect from
a front end).

-Run both a FidoNet and a PunterNet system on the same PC; PC-PunterNet
requires so much RAM that it cannot run, say, under DoubleDOS in a 640K PC.

-Write PunterNet protocol drivers for a Fido system; there are a couple of
minor technical glitches but, considering how vast PunterNet is (50 nodes?)
and the fact that many of its participants are also on Fido and Usenet, why
bother implementing Steve's needlessly complex protocols to provide a fraction
of the functionality offered by existing nets?

This is the correct InterNet addressing for FidoNet:

FirstName_LastName@[p<point>.]f<node>.n<net>.z<zone>.FIDONET.ORG.

e.g. Geoffrey_Welsh@f171.n221.z1.FIDONET.ORG

You can also get away with bangpath routing if you know the name of the
nearest gateway system:

...<GateName>![[[<zone>!]<net>!]<node>!]FirstName_LastName

e.g. ...!isishq!171!Geoffrey_Welsh

The InterNet addressing scheme is preferred, since it does not depend on
any specific gateway being used. There are many UUCP<->Fido gateways in
operation, and I am setting up another.

   For further discussion, netmail me.

   Geoff
