On Desterm 128, how do you specify a binary, ascii, or pet ascii upload or download? Also, how can you abort from a download or upload? Thanks, Dan Nix djn1537@uxf.cso.uiuc.edu

Hi Dan:
To address one part of your question: How to abort a transfer? -- Well,
use the ESC key (be patient -- it sometimes takes up to 10 sec).
The other part of the question requires some explanation. The protocols
that DesTerm uses right now are all BINARY protocols -- that is, there is no
limitation on what may sent/received. They are all 8 bit communucations
protocols so there is no need to specify ASCII/BINARY -- it's all the same.
As for the CBMASCII conversion. DesTerm, when in a transfer protocol does
no character conversions on incoming data -- it simply gets put on disk. What
you then do with it is up to you. The ONLY time that DesTerm will convert
characters for you is when it is loading or saving the capture buffer -- since
both ASCII and CBMASCII are widely used for text. It would make no sense to
convert the incoming data during a transfer -- since there is no way of
telling binary executables from text -- all you would get is garbage...
Matt.
