[comp.sys.cbm] Two questions.....

Hi,

1) I have GEOS for my c64 (version 1.2) and I have sold my 1541 for a
MSD-SD2 dual drive. Unfortunately GEOS doesn't like my drive. First
the drive would barf on the boot code that GEOS uses. So I made
another boot disk that works on third party machines. Ok so now the
boot code loads and all of the GEOS kernal routines but no desktop.
And since GEOS uses its own fast disk routines my drive barfs when
GEOS tries to load the desktop. My question is: How can I get around
this ? I have found a few programs that allow me to change
applications without the desktop, but they are in a special convert
format that allows one to transport GEOS applications. I have the
program to convert it back, but I need to run it from GEOS !!! So I'm
sort of in a catch 22 situation. I really don't want to give up my
dual drive (in favor of two 1541's) so is there any program out there
that can either convert these programs to something usable or
something that patches GEOS (or something) so it can communicate with
my disk drive ?

2) I have a dead c128 which comes on and the screen remains black. It
initializes my MSD drive just fine so I suspect the cpu and roms are
fine. I would guess there is something wrong with some of the video
chips or something, although I have not played with it much so I am
really clueless. Any ideas ?

I had a similar problem with my C-128. It turned out to be a false contact
on the power suply connector to the Computer. Try moving the connector a little
and try again. If this doesn't work, you'r probably right about the video chip.

                  Hope This helps!
