[comp.sys.cbm] CP/M on C128

c60b-gd@buddy.Berkeley.EDU (Ofer Licht) (02/27/88)

I bought a c128 a long time ago. The cp/m that came with it
didn't support the user port and so modeming was out. Some time
in Dec '85 a friend of mine in Miami gave me a beta version of a
new cp/m that did support the user port, plus add key click and some
other little things. I currently use IMP-C128, a terminal program
by Irv Hoff. Keyboard response is still terribley s l o w and
sssstttiiiccckkkeeeyyy. Have there been any new releases?

I don't know about new releases for IMP, I use MEX -- but, I
don't believe IMP is the source of your problem. If you don't
have it, you need to get a copy of of CONFIG.COM and
CONFIG.HLP. This allows you to change certain parameters of
CP/M like screen and character color, port baud rate, keyboard
feel, keyboard repeat, and even the volume of the keyboard clicks.

I have it in my PROFILE.SUB file to set up the screen the way
I like it. You will also get faster response if you turn off
the 40-column screen driver -- SCREEN40.COM.

I meant new releases of cp/m. But I got some info on that...

Are these on the new version cp/m disks? and what about SCREEN40.COM?
What other utilities are in existence for cp/m on c128? Sound?
80-column graphics?  ...  Ofer Licht

(1) I have lost the information on how to get the additional disk
of "standard" CP/M utilities for the C128 (ED, the assemblers,
etc.). There was a card to mail in that came with my C128D, but
I've lost it. I got my machine a couple of years ago, and I *think*
I registered my copy of CP/M.

(2) Does anyone know where I could get (public domain or fairly
cheap):
	* a decent CP/M text editor
	* a Z-80 assembler (I understand the one that
	  comes with CP/M uses 8080 mnemonics--I like
	  my LDIR)
	* a C compiler (I understand there's a good
	  PD C compiler that comes with source)

I read comp.sys.cbm fairly often, so you can reply either by posting
here or by email.

Thanks,
-j.

Try Q-Link... they have a good selection on CP/M programs for the 128.
