Hi, guys, I would like to hear some opinions (the more the better): I have a C64, a 1541 and a mono non-CBM monitor. Now I am considering to buy a second disk drive. I have several questions : 1. What is the latest CBM model for C64 ? And what are your opinions about it ? I realize that my old 1541 can run all old software and most of the new software. Now what about the latest model ? 2. What are the non-CBM models available on the market (e.g. FSD+ ?) and opinions, of course ? Do these compatibles have any problem in running old/new C64 software ? I know that if one wants to use a 2nd drive when running GEOS, both drives have be (I think) the same model i.e. two 1541's or two 1571's. So, do these compatitibles actually make the C64 think that they are 1541 or 15xx ? 3. Should I look into 3.5" drives also ? Are they fully compatible (or does CBM make one for C64 ?) and reliable ? I know that 3.5" disk is not as dependable as the 5.25" disk. Will there be any problem in running software in general when I have a 1541 and a 3.5" drive connected at the same time ? Is it GEOS compatible ? $. Finally, what are the prices ? Please e-mail your comments to me. Thanx a bunch ! Hi , Patrick the 1541 II is the newest version I believe, It's pluspoints: Smaller dimensions, external powersupply, better mechanical design... I have never heard complaints concerning compatibility, the clones of the 1541 however, never work 100% compatible! The 1581 (3.5 inch) yes, a very good drive, but I don't feel the support around me, like the 1541...But that could diver from country. I hope I'd supply you with usefull info, say could you help me with obtaining Kermit 2.1 ? It has been released, but here in Holland...you know ?
