[comp.sys.cbm] Power supply problems

deal@kodak.UUCP (Stephen M. Deal) (08/27/89)

My sister-in-law's C-64 is exhibiting characteristics that imply that
the infamous pwoer supply is dying (intermittent monitor problems).

Can she use the power supply from a VIC-20 until she gets a replacement
for the C-64? I don't have a schematic for the VIC-20 so I can't check
the pinouts.

If someone has interchanged these power supplies with no ill effects or
can post/send me the power input pinouts for the VIC-20 it would be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Yes, sometimes. If the plugs match, there should not be a problem.
The supplies for those particular VIC-20's were identical to ones made
for the 64. They are actually a bit more powerful than the newer
"bricks," and less prone to failure.

However, MOST of the VIC-20's I've run across are the type that use a
two-prong AC supply that does not generate the 5V. These are
incompatible with the 64, but there's no way you could plug one into a
64 anyways.
