You've got the reason correct (to slow the 1540 for the C64), but I think the - and + are reversed. I don't have a 1540, but for the 1541 I use: OPEN15,8,15,"UI-":CLOSE15 for the VIC-20 OPEN15,8,15,"UI+":CLOSE15 for the C-64 Of course the "8" can be a "9" for some drives which have had their device numbers changed. --Myron -- Myron A. Borrow a rom from a 1541, copy it into an eprom, put it back in your 1540. Now you have a 1541 and don't have to worry about it. As I recall, a Motorola 68764 24-pin eprom plugs right in. Disclaimer: "I never said that"
