Thanks to all who gave me help with my C64 problem, it turns out my system is back and running! The problemas with a bad regulator and one bad chip, the 7474, costed $8 to fix! Of course my dad, who is an instrument tech., had the tools to fix it at work, saved me a bundle at the repair shop! Costed someone I know with a similar problem 75$ to fix! -Ryan

I think what Mike means is PLA chip, U17. This is most often the culprit for problems like yours. It will also often cause a blank screen at power-up. This chip selects the basic, kernel, and char. gen. roms, so when it goes bad, a multitude of symptoms can develop. But the ones described above are by far the most common. After a long rest ( 1 year ) i have uncovered my C 64 from the depths of my equipment pile and SHOCK HORROR, no go! After turning it on, i get the usual 2 second boot period and then a pure white screen, i can still load and run programms, but they turn out some strange black & white combination. Any ideas what this is, what might have caused it? Any reply received with thanks.
