[comp.sys.cbm] Second Sid Chip Alternative?

acliu@skat.usc.edu (Alex C. Liu) (02/10/90)

Hello,
I always wanted to add a 2nd SID chip to my computer but didn't
wanted to surrender the ONLY cart port of the C128 or ONE of the TWO
I/O lines for the C128. Now, I am asking, is it possible to remove
the Sid chip from the C128 mother board, and replace it with a small
PC board but with 2 Sid chips and using the logic bellow as Chip
Select. Now, before spending the $$ on this sort of stuff, I was
wondering it this is actually possible? (I know I would have to patch
StereoSidPlayer to access the right SID chip, since it would be mapped
in a different address) I want to know this, 'cos, I don't want to
expend lots of time in a project that will take my C128D to the Repair
Shop...

Sure, it's possible. I assume you mean that it's for six-voice stereo.
I should know because I have the stereo installed by wiring up an extra chip.
Don't get me wrong. I didn't do it -- a friend of mine did, but the whole
thing only cost me about $30 -- $19.95(?) for the second chip, then the rest
for wire, two RCA female jacks, switch, etc. The effects are unbelievable,
and it doesn't affect any program in any way. shape, or form. I SHOULD still
have a copy about how to install it, but if you're not good with electronics,
have someone else do it!
Leave me mail or get me your address and somehow, I'll try to get it to you.

Could you possible email me the instructions for adding the second SID?
I have searched all over for it and can't find it. I have StereoSidplayer
and would like to add the second chip so I could play it in stereo. Could
you also include the instructions for accessing it?
Thanks.
