[comp.sys.cbm] DISK Mail Archive Server

specter@disk.UUCP (Byron Max Guernsey) (02/16/90)

Hola,

Thanks to Alex Liu, I'm happy to announce a second Mail-Archive Server for the
commodore 64/128 computer system. It is running on Alex's software "UXV-Mail
Archive Server" (which I should add is excellent and available from this server
via the command "send other server")

The server is setup in hopes that it will increase the flow of the public
domain software and server as a medium for exchange (since the USENET is
lacking a comp.binaries.cbm) Please keep all submissions public domain. No
copyrighted software will be accepted. And PLEASE feel free to submit any
software! It is currently fairly small and needs to be supplemented. I threw
together some 'often requests' and put then in there.

The archive should be identified as "Disk Archive Server" to distinguish it
from the original UXV-MAZE Archive Server. It will work with all the UXV server
commands since it is run from identical software.

Also note that Digital Information Systems of Kentucky has no affiliation with
this server whatsoever nor will they take any responsibility for files in the
server. It is merely run off their system independantly.

For those who are new to Mail-Archive servers, here is a small bit of help to
get you started. To get a complete help file on how to use the server, send
mail to me at specter@disk.UUCP or at uunet!ukma!corpane!disk!specter with the
subject...
Subject: Mail-Archive-Request

It is important that you enter the subject exactly as it is written above or
your request will not be processed. If your system does not automatically
insert a "Return-Path:" header, either make a custom header (elm) or enter
the line...
path <your path from here>

in the body of your message. It should be the first command in your request. If
you are not sure if your system adds the Return-Path: header, use the path
command anyway. It will still set the path even if your system does use the
Return-Path header. Now, in the body of your message, below your path command,
use the command...
help

this will send the complete help file to you (which in reality is basically the
same help file you get from UXV-Maze with very few changes). So if you already
know how to use the UXV maze server, then you can use the Disk Mail Archive
server using the same commands. The archive includes the general volumes:
terms, graphics, games, programming, utilities, music, other. More specific
volumes will be added as needed. (Currently the selection is a bit limited but
I will be adding a bit more on my part as i get the time- Again please feel
free to submit any files you care to send. For help on how to do this, enter the
command in your message... "help receive".

I'd like to again thank Alex Liu for the wonderful server software, and I hope
this will speed up requests for you guys in the midwest/east. All questions on
the Mail Archive Software should be directed to acliu@skat.usc.edu (where the
original archive resides along with the author) Any questions on this particular
archive can be sent to me at specter@disk.UUCP. So lets get this thing online
guys... (Gals too)
