[comp.sys.cbm] Thanks for the info re. CBM64 disk drives etc.

TStewart@massey.ac.nz (T.M. Stewart) (02/22/90)

My thanks to all the folks who replied publicy and via e-mail to my
queries regarding CBM64 disk drives, archiving programs etc. on
comp.sys.cbm.

The reason I asked about attaching IMB 80 track drives to the CBM64
is because I have a spare drive at home. Looks like I'll just have
to dip into the pocket and buy a 1541 or the like.

The '64 itself only cost me $NZ 80.00 ($US 44.00). A real bargin I
think as it was one of the later models and had scarcely been used.
Getting a second hand disk drive may prove to be more difficult
however, as most people who want to part with their systems want
to sell it as a package rather than breaking it up into individual
components.

However, after becoming used to ultra-fast hard drives, the tape
reader is like stepping back to the dark ages, although the
experience is tinged with nostalgia. It reminds me of my first
experience with a 16k tape driven TRS-80 model 1 in 1979. The game was
Backgammon and I thought it was magic!

Sigh!, those were the days.....

Cheers
