[comp.sys.cbm] Wanted: UNIX program to download to C64

bbadger@x102c.harris-atd.com (Badger BA 64810) (03/02/90)

I'm having trouble downloading from our UNIX machine, where I can get
lots of goodies from the archives, to my C64. The only source-code
downloader I have is a 300 baud XMODEM (3.4?). I have 1200 baud
programs XMODEM7.2, XMOBUF7.4, MULTI7.??, MACHTERM.
But none of them will talk to my UNIX XMODEM program.

It's hard to use any of these programs to talk to UNIX without the
pipe "|" character. Does anyone know how to change the translation
tables?

I've been trying to use the rz/sz program sz.c By Chuck Forsberg
specifically VERSION "sz 1.26 03-10-87", but it always bombs out.

At first I couldn't get it to pass even one block, because the
checksums were different. This was due to character 145 being
transmitted as 0. Our terminal server thinks 145 is ^Q and I had to
turn of the flow-control (^S,^Q) feature. Then xmodem starts working,
but the file stops on block 13. I think this may be due to 13
appearing in the xmodem packet as the block number, and being
translated to another character by UNIX. (i.e., 13 = ^M = CR =
carriage return, gets changed by UNIX to NLCR = newline, carriage
return = linefeed return = 10 13).  However, I haven't had a chance to
check this yet. The only C64 modem program I have source for is XMODEM
at 300 baud, so it's pretty tedious to check this out.

I've been trying to download ccgms.v6p1 and kermit2p2b.sda from the
archives, but I haven't made it past xmodem block 12 yet.

Any of the following may help me:

o UNIX version of Punter protocol. (MACHTERM uses this.)
o Description of Punter protocol. (I can write my own UNIX
		version based on rz/sz.)
o Some other simple protocol which doesn't use any control characters.
o BBS with kermit. (407) area code, please. (Yeah, I'm cheap, I know.)
o Short C64 program to UUDECODE, ABE, XXDECODE or from SEQ file. (I can
download short UUENCODED pieces, combine the files with an editor
or cat program, then UUDECODE the result.

Of course, I'll probably figure this out, or program around it eventually,
but perhaps someone can save me the time.

Thanks for your consideration.
