I am new to downloading things from FTP sites to a C=64, I have an Amiga and a C=64, but I have only transfered files with the Amiga. 1) When I get things from the site, fo I use binary mode or ASCII? 2) when downloading from my system account to my C=64, can I use xmodem protocall on the system and on the C=64? Any help would be appreciated. When I used Xmodem to transfer files between the C64 and the VAX-VMS I got mixed results. With some terminal program the transfer would commense at all, with others the files would be transfered distorted. I had the most success using CCGMS terminal program which allows me to upload a file to VAX just fine, but not download. I think you will have better luck if the system is an UNIX. The commands for transfering files via the Xmodem protocol is: Download from Unix, sx -b <filename> Upload to Unix, rx -b <filename> If Xmodem doesn't work for you, the only other options is Kermit. Although Kermit is slow at transfering, it is a sure thing. Sincerely, Scott K. Stephen

Hand out instructions telling people to use programs that aren't even available on most UNIX systems. "xmodem" is more common than the "rz/sz" package. If you do not have rx/sx available (they work better for binaries, IMHO) then try xmodem.
