My 1541 is the second type produced, with a door consisting of the little lever which is turned clockwise to "close" the door. The problem: I put a disk in the drive and closed the door, then tried to load something from the disk. The drive knocked as if either the door was not closed, or there was no disk in the drive. I quickly turned off and back on my C= 64, and tried again, with similar results. I turned off both the 64 and the 1541 and then tried opening and closing the drive door a couple times. The second time I closed it, there was a "sproing" noise and the door was able to freely rotate. But it wouldn't lock into place. I.e., my drive is now nonfunctional. Does anyone know how to repair this? If it's not a good idea for a "non-professional" to try to repair it, is there anywhere in the Boston/Cambridge area where I could find a "professional" to fix it for a reasonable price? Or should I just start looking for a replacement drive? Brian D. Rogerson
