I am gathering data on the best-selling computer. I am more interested in some hard figures, guys, no need to debate what's a computer and what's not. C'mon. We all know what I mean. :-) Comments and speculation ok, but please give me some sources and data. This is relevant to Macs,PCs, Amigas, Ataris, (and even mainframes although I'm sure many more Personal computers have been sold.) As such, please be judicious with your comments and cross-posting. Keep the signal level high and the noise level low... To get things going this is an example of the kind of info I need. This is how the mainframe/mini market stacks up. Does anyone have info like this regarding PCs?? This is from INFORMATION CENTER Magazine, June 1989 concerning the biggies: TOP 10 GENERAL PURPOSE COMPUTER SYSTEMS Rank Mfgr System Ttl Purchase Purchase # of Systems (in $Million) ($ 000) ---- ------ -------- ------------- -------- ------------ 1 IBM 3090-4XX 6793 10,200 666 2 IBM 3090-2XX 4709 4,800 981 3 IBM 3090-6XX 4134 13,000 318 4 IBM 3090-1XX 3849 3,000 1,283 5 IBM SYSTEM 36 3737 40 93,436 6 IBM 4381 2814 450 6,254 7 UNISYS 1100/90 2720 3,200 850 8 DEC MICROVAX II 2703 40 67,583 9 DEC VAX86xx 2422 450 5,382 10 IBM AS/400 2240 200 11,200 Re-arrange this chart as needed to determine best-selling computer by number of Systems rather than total purchase. Nbr of 3090-4XX systems sold only goes to corroborate that this is the "Computer from Hell!" o o ^ @ -- Just a plain ole cs student. This never fails: cs471s07@uhccux.uhcc.hawaii.edu

You left out the most likely candidate for the best-selling computer, the C-64. Scott.
