[comp.sys.cbm] Three more questions

kudla@pawl.rpi.edu (Robert J. Kudla) (06/13/90)

Well, I know you're all getting really sick of my questions, but hey,
take a three year break from something and you're bound to get
confused. :)

Anyway..... 1. Basic 8. Any recommendations for or against, and is
there a compiler available for it?

2. GEOS 128. Is it worthwhile? I would guess that while it's pretty to
look at, it's kind of useless since (I assume) it doesn't run GEOS 64
applications, DA"s, etc and has about 2 of its own.

And 3... I have a 128D, so that means I have 64K of video RAM,
whatever good that does me. I just bought the C128 Programmers
Reference Manual and while it doesn't mention the extra RAM, it does
mention some sort of interlace mode and that the C128's bitmap is
640x400. (This wasn't an actual question, it just popped into my
head.) Does this mean I can get my 128 to make an interlaced display?

Okay, real 3. Who should I Email to get that shell for the 128? I was
about to start working on one tonight and remembered someone had
written a Unix shell clone a few months ago.....

By the way, as soon as I get my modem back from the scoundrel who's
had it for the last two years, I'll probably be backing stuff up to my
Unix accounts and whatnot, especially since 1 meg is about 6 disks
(1541 type) worth and I have about 250M of tape available for the
mooching. I won't be able to do anonymous FTP right now (perhaps in a
short while when I find out what's involved here) but I shall be able
to do requests. Of course, right now all I'm good for is stuff dating
1986 and earlier, really..... but hey,
