That's right, folks. Those of you who subscribe, and, like me, have been
wondering where the July issue is, need wonder no longer. It seems that Omni
magazine has purchased Compute! publications, lock, stock, and barrel. Under
their new organization, there will be only one Compute! magazine, which
will "incorporate all of Compute!'s sister magazines into a unified
whole". All subscriptions will be transferred over to Compute! magazine by
August or so. There seems to be some question whether one or two Gazette
magazines may yet be published before the switchover, but it seems unlikely.

All of this comes straight from Compute! itself to my ear, and I thought I'd
pass on the bad news. The Gazette was the best Commodore magazine ever
published, and I fear that this truly marks the end of an era. The 64 and 128,
which were already hurting badly, are now mortally wounded. I have no
confidence in the new magazine, even bearing the Compute! name. I hope I'm
proved wrong. Time will tell.
