A friend of my has an 80 column RGB monitor that he would like to use with the C64. The RGB monitor does not come with a composite input phono-port. Instead It only has one 6 pin DIN port. What he would like to know is whether there is a way to connect the C64 to his RGB monitor? He is thinking of connecting all the color lines together of the RGB monitor to the Video-output pin of the C64. Is this a wise thing to do? Will it work? Is there a better method of doing it? I have noticed that in the newer C64c there is an extract Chroma pin output. Does this extra pin facilitates in the connection to the RGB monitor. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Scott K. Stephen

I'm afraid you can't connect an RGB monitor to a c64... The extra pin you are talking about on the 64c isn't really extra, since all c64 computers have it. Commodore computers have separate chroma and luma out jacks; a few monitors out there have separate chroma and luma inputs. Although this method isn't quite as good as RGB, it gives you a picture with at least double the resolution and ten times the stability of a tv picture. Many c64 monitor cables splice the chroma and luma output pins together to get a single composite line, which can then be plugged into generic monitors or VCRs or things like that. Tell your friend to buy a Commodore monitor! :) Mine's 6 years old, and it'll beat the pants of the best tv on the market, if hooked up to a decent LD player (it can actually be done) John Feinberg SUNY Buffalo
