[comp.sys.cbm] USING RAM EXPANDERS ON OLD C64'S.

steyaert@vela.acs.oakland.edu (Terry Steyaert) (07/21/90)

I heard, years ago, that the old C64's would have problems running
a RAM expander. I forgot that fact, and bought one to use with my
BBS. The problem is, I found out that the rumor was true. The RAM
expander (a 1764, modified to 512K) won't work on the C64, but works
just fine on my Commodore 128.

Is there a way to change the C64, so that the RAM expander will work?
I want to keep the BBS on the C64 (I had the spare computer, so I
put up the BBS and don't want to run it on my "good" computer.)

Thanks in advance.

RE:REUs...now, I'm confused...my REU1764 expanded runs just fine on my C=64
(1984 model)...and my system runs fine...(IMAGE 1.2) just used the heavy duty
power supply that comes with it...the manual that came with it said not to
run it on the 128, though I've seen it done successfully on other systems...
