[comp.sys.cbm] Commodore IEEE hard drives

I have been the proud owner of one of the hardest to find huncks of commodore hardware ever realsed. Its the Commodore modle : D9060 5 meg hard disk drive unit. This unit works with an IEEE connector on the back and will store up to 19441 blocks free on the drive after its been formatted. It uses dos version 3.0 which is not unlike most any other verions of commodore dos. To get a directory of this hard drive you enter 'load "$",8' then list.

This is my idea. For the fun of it one night I removed the TANDON 602S whinchester hard drive and replaced it with a Seagate ST4051 40 megabyte drive. I powerd the unit up and issued the format command. After it done done formatted my 40 meg drive I loaded up a directory to see how many blocks free it had. Much to my dissapointment it still only showed a 5 meg drive in there. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get the controller to recognize past 5 megs? There are tree EPROMS on the controller, bu

t I dont know which do what, nor do I have any tehcnial info as to how they are mapped or control the whinchester information needed to format to full capacity. Anyone who can be of any help? Anyone ever sucessfuly modified one of these to go past 5 megs? I know there was a D9090 unit out there then used a different number of heads, but I have been unable to find one to do a rom check on it for differences????

Thanks, gotta run!
