[comp.sys.cbm] Parts for 1581 diskdrive

ez001287@castor (Thomas Lew) (09/18/90)

My 1581 disk drive was recently vandalized (via super glue in the drive
opening). I managed to unstick most of the parts with nail polish remover
and none of the vital parts (ie the heads or motor) were effected. However,
I do need some replacement parts to make it fully operational again.

The 3 or so main parts that I need are all inside the sealed metal drive
casing that sits on top of the controller card. The include the plastic
plate which opens diskette shutters when they are inserted, the track the plate
slides on, and the little roller that the plate uses to roll along on.
These are not very common parts.

The question is: does anyone know of a place where I can get these parts?
I've written to Commodore, but am still awaiting a reply.

Also: does anyone have a defunct 1581 drive that is broken or disfunctional
that they no longer use that they will sell me (cheap) for spare parts
(I think old Amiga drives will work too, since they're also made by Commodore
and these are non-electronic parts). If so, please send mail to
ez001287@castor.ucdavis.edu ASAP. Thanks!
