The 1581 can't format MS-DOS disks but it can read them if they're 720K. I
think a program that does this appeared in an old issue of RUN but I don't know
which one.

The 1581 can format, read, and write 3.5" MS-DOS 720K disks with the proper
program. I believe the Big Blue Reader will do so, or there were several
issues of RUN in early 1989 that had programs to format and read/write.
