I have written a golf game program for the C64 that is (in my opinion) very good. (At least as good as you can get written in BASIC.) It uses a ML subroutine to handle sprites that was published about 6-8 years ago in Compute's Gazette (I think). My question is this. What are the copy right laws concerning programs published in magazines. Suppose, for example, my program was the next Pac Man. Would I (or anybody else) be able to make any money off it since it contains somebody elses work? Or, if it doesn't take off like Pac Man (which it wont), do I have the right to make copies available to the public for no monetary gain: i.e. Have is published in a magizine myself or pass out copies to my friends? Would I have the right to do any of the above if I gave the author of the ML routine due credit? (Which I can't--see below.) Finally, does any body know the author of the routine I am referring to. The routine is called with commands that look like SYS SP,M,#,X,Y or SYS SP,S,#. Any help would be appeciated. Please E-Mail me directly if you can.
